Fee and Replacement Policies

Library Lost, Damaged and Overdue Materials Policies

The library charges a flat fee of $85.00 for most lost items. Users who lose or damage library materials should contact the library as soon as possible so we can work to determine a fair cost for repair or replacement.

  • The library does not accept replacement-in-kind copies of lost or damaged items.
  • All fees are charged to users' university accounts and must be paid online or in the Cashier's Office. Absolutely no fees are collected in the library.
  • Refunds are issued only at the discretion of the library.
  • Patrons who owe more than $50.00 in fees will be blocked from all library transactions.
  • Library materials are not available for purchase and remain the property of Dacus Library regardless of payment status.
  • Certain materials (laptops, textbooks, reserves) carry a non-refundable billing fee equal to roughly 10% of the library's established replacement cost. Patrons with a history of long overdue devices will be blocked from further checkout of electronics.
  • The library reserves the right to determine all charges for repair or replacement of all materials, including electronic equipment.
  • Patrons are responsible for all damages to items checked out on their accounts.
  • The library system adds a default replacement cost to patron accounts for long overdue materials. Dacus Library may charge higher or lower replacement fees for certain materials based on actual cost.
  • Patrons who return materials subsequent to the semester in which they have been billed are responsible for notifying the library and requesting a refund. Refunds may be issued at the discretion of the library.
  • Patrons who have questions about their fees or accounts should contact the Circulation Department
