National Food Safety Education Month - Food Safety Guide

National Food Safety Education Month

Welcome to Fall Semester 2022, Eagles!

If you are learning to cook or continuing to expand your culinary skills, safe food preparation, and safe food storage will help prevent food poisoning. Around 48 million cases of foodborne illnesses occur annually resulting in approximately 128,000 hospitalizations and 3,000 deaths.

National Food Safety Education Month began in 1994 to promote the safe handling, preparation, and storage of food to reduce the risk of foodborne illness. Several federal government agencies participate in National Food Safety Education Month offering tips for food safety and the prevention of foodborne illness.

The information highlighted in this guide covers basic food safety tips and guidelines. Links to government agency safety information providers are included for further research.
