Types of books

Books play an important role in the research process by providing background, context, and in-depth reviews of a specific topic. In addition to reference books such as encyclopedias, you may consider these types of books:

Scholarly/academic books - As with scholarly articles, this content in this type of book is supported by the research of the author(s). The language used is more academic in style, with the intended audience being other researchers and scholars.

Trade books -  These books appeal to broader audiences and use more colloquial language. You can use trade books to get a quick understanding of a subject, and to develop research questions. The quality of information presented in trade books can vary widely.
