Ebooks

Ebooks

When available both in print and ebook formats, the most cost-effective format will be purchased.  For the following materials, the print format will be favored:

  1. Original works of literature (poetry, prose fiction, etc.)
  2. Works consisting primarily (over 50%) of art and/or illustration rather than text.
  3. Books whose ebook edition omits images due to rights-holder restrictions (the arts, etc).
  4. Works about the local area (local area surrounding Rock Hill, SC and York County) and by local authors.
  5. Works by or about South Carolina and South Carolinians.
  6. Juvenile works.

If the library already owns an ebook, the title is not purchased in print.

Ordering is available for ebooks specifically needed to support a class.

Streaming Video & Audio

Streaming video and audio are the default option for film purchase, except in the case of specialized instructional films not available in the Library’s streaming video and audio databases.

E-Journals & Databases

Selection criteria include coverage, embargo period, document format (pdf is preferred), image inclusion and quality, completeness of backfile, perpetuity of access, off-campus access (proxy server preferred), cost effectiveness.
