In order to protect accounts, all faculty and staff must present a valid photo ID (preferably a Winthrop ID) to check out materials.
If a faculty member has a research, graduate or departmental assistant they would like to pick up and checkout library materials for them, the faculty member should submit a Dacus Library Proxy Card Application. The card will be sent to the faculty member via campus mail. A valid photo ID must be presented with the Library Proxy Card in order to check out materials. A proxy account will also allow the assistant to place Interlibrary Loan requests and check them out on behalf of the faculty member. Learn more about Interlibrary Loan.
Like other labs on campus, Dacus Library's computers are set up with ACC accounts. Faculty and staff have to be logged in as a guest user to use the computers, unless you request an ACC account. To be logged in as a guest, just present your Winthrop ID to staff at the Information Commons desk.
Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is a cooperative service between libraries that allows eligible Winthrop faculty, staff and students to obtain materials not owned by Dacus Library. This service includes borrowing from other libraries books, photocopies of periodical articles, microfilm copies of dissertations, and other needed items. Go to the Interlibrary Loan Department.
Faculty members may request a Proxy Account for graduate/research assistants to use when ordering items on their behalf. Students should NOT use their personal ILL accounts for this purpose. Please fill out the Dacus Library Proxy Account Application to request an ILL Proxy Account.
The faculty member will receive a Faculty Proxy Card via campus mail that the assistant can use to pick up library materials. A valid photo ID must be presented with the Faculty Proxy Card in order to check out materials.
Faculty members should be aware that they are responsible for all materials on their accounts, including any overdue, lost or damaged items.
Dacus Library accepts requests and acquires materials within the guidelines and policies as stated in the Collection Management Handbook. The confines of the Library’s materials budget are also a factor. Each department or discipline has a designated individual who acts as a liaison with the library. The liaison coordinates and submits requests to the library via email: email@example.com. Additionally, requests can be made through campus mail or in person.
