Basic Research and Writing: Introduction

Some helpful tips for getting started with research and writing.

This guide will show you how to develop research interests and how to use the library’s resources to find information for your research papers. This guide includes instructions on how to use the library's catalog and databases, and provides directions for locating library resources, such as professional/scholarly journal articles and books.

Writing consists of several components. The best papers are the result of:

  • a well-formulated question,
  • ample time to work on the project,
  • enough information,
  • thorough research,
  • rigorous analysis, and
  • logical conclusions.

The writing process begins with an idea and is narrowed down and pulled-together at the end.

Use the tabs above to discover how to narrow and search for your topic, as well as how to use library resources.
